DIY LMNT Dupe: A Customizable Alternative for Superior Hydration
DIY LMNT Dupe | Living in the desert presents unique hydration challenges. As I neared the age of 50, persistent headaches and muscle cramps became frequent issues, eventually pointing to dehydration. Recognizing the need to reassess my approach to hydration and overall health became crucial, especially as I navigate the changes that come with aging.
Finding a low-sugar solution was important to me, and while I love the LMNT brand, it’s quite expensive. So, I decided to create my own DIY electrolyte mix, and I’m thrilled with the results. I’ve also included calcium in my recipe, understanding the significance of bone health, particularly during menopause.
My DIY Electrolyte Mix Recipe | Just like LMNT!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup salt: Rich in essential minerals like sodium. Himalayan salt is great, too
- 1/2 cup potassium chloride: Provides potassium for muscle function and hydration.
- 1/4 cup magnesium malate: Supports muscle relaxation, recovery and overall well-being. Malate is a form of malic acid which can provide a boost of energy.
- 1 packet citrus: Adds a refreshing flavor and a boost of vitamin C.
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the pink Himalayan salt, potassium chloride, magnesium malate, and calcium citrate powder.
- Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Store the mixture in an airtight container for convenience.
Usage:
- Add 1 teaspoon + 1 citrus packet to 40oz of water with ice. (I use a 40 oz Stanley. My goal is to finish 2-3 Stanley’s per day) – I sometimes swap the citrus packet with fresh lemon/lime juice.)
Why I Love This DIY Electrolyte Mix
Cost-Effective: Creating my own mix is much more affordable than buying commercial options like LMNT. Plus, I can adjust it to fit my taste and hydration needs.
Customization: I can tweak the recipe to match my preferences, whether that means adjusting sweetness or trying different flavors.
Natural Ingredients: No sugar! I know exactly what’s in my mix—no artificial additives or preservatives.
Effective Hydration: This mix has helped me stay hydrated, reduce headaches, and I not longer wake up with leg cramps. The inclusion of magnesium supports muscle relaxation, and the mix as a whole helps me stay on top of my hydration goals.
If you’re dealing with hydration challenges or are looking for a cost-effective alternative to commercial electrolyte mixes, give this DIY recipe a try. It’s made a significant difference for me, and I’m sure it can help others as well.
